A new group of the IAEA permanent monitoring mission has begun work at the Rivne NPP. This is the 48th rotation since the start of the full-scale war.
The new team of experts from Japan, Bulgaria, and Finland has arrived to continue the mission, taking over from the previous observer team from Pakistan, which had completed its three-week assignment.
During the next period, international experts will monitor nuclear and radiation safety, as well as observe compliance with international standards at the power plant site.
During the kick-off meeting with the RNPP management and representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, the new mission members familiarized themselves with the specifics of the plant's operation, discussed current challenges related to the state of war and risks to the energy infrastructure, and accepted the findings of the previous team.
The presence of IAEA representatives at Ukrainian NPPs remains an important element in ensuring transparency and confirming the safe operation of power units.
"The daily work of IAEA experts at the RNPP not only helps to increase the confidence of the international community, but also helps us to improve our internal processes. The exchange of experience and independent monitoring make it possible to further strengthen the safety culture and operational efficiency of the RNPP," said Valerii Kovalchuk, RNPP Deputy Chief Engineer for Engineering.
The IAEA's permanent mission continues to fulfill its key task of independently monitoring compliance with the seven indispensable pillars for nuclear safety and security.
