The 53rd rotation of experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency Permanent Monitoring Mission took place at the Rivne NPP. Experts from France and Pakistan started working at the site.
Within the framework of their stay at the RNPP, international experts will monitor the state of nuclear and radiation safety, taking into account the impact of military factors, as well as assess compliance with international safety standards.
“IAEA experts record the real conditions in which the nuclear power plant operates today, in particular the impact of external threats related to the war. This allows making an objective assessment of the risks caused by the russian aggression. Therefore, the mission activities in these conditions are of critical practical importance for the plant,” Valerii Kovalchuk, RNPP Deputy Chief Engineer for Technology and Engineering, emphasized.
Summarizing the efforts of the previous mission, the IAEA senior expert expressed gratitude to the RNPP team for their cooperation: “We appreciate your hospitality and openness. It was interesting for us to observe the implementation of the measures aimed at counteracting winter weather at the site. Thank you for the opportunity to learn from you. May our cooperation continue to serve for nuclear safety enhancement.”
The IAEA Permanent Monitoring Mission remains one of the key international mechanisms for monitoring compliance with the principles of nuclear safety and security in Ukraine under conditions of the ongoing armed aggression of the russian federation.
