The implementation of the educational project “SUNPP Nuclear Academy” continues at the South Ukraine NPP. Another training session was held on November 12. This time, participants of the educational activities “NPP upon the palm of your hand” with the support of volunteer rescuers of the local Maltese Emergency Service branch learned to provide first aid.
The instructors introduced the boys and girls to the fundamental principles of providing first aid. In particular, they talked about the algorithm of actions in the event that a person is unconscious but breathing. They demonstrated how to correctly return him or her to a stable lateral position. They also provided detailed instructions of actions in the event that person is unconscious and not breathing. The lecture contained information on conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation, providing assistance in case of massive, critical hemorrhage using tourniquets, and special bandages.
After the theoretical part, they moved on to practical session: under the guidance of instructors, the participants practiced skills on training dummies, had training in acting clearly, coherently, and without panic.
“We strive to teach children not to be afraid to act. Timely first aid significantly increases the injured person chances of survival and recovery. It’s nice to see how interested young people are in the information and how quickly they master the necessary skills,” said Yevhen Shiferdekker, Acting Head of the South Ukraine branch of the Maltese Aid Service.
Participants of “SUNPP Nuclear Academy” also shared their impressions: “It was very interesting! We were able to try everything ourselves, to properly practice check breathing. Now I know exactly what to do if someone feels bad,” said Ivan Demenko, a pupil at Pivdennoukrainsk Lyceum No. 2.
Such classes are part of the educational project “SUNPP Nuclear Academy.” They help high school pupils gain useful life skills that can be crucial in various critical situations. Volunteer rescuers are convinced that the acquired knowledge and skills will make participants more confident, responsible, and ready to come to the rescue of those in need.
