On November 19, the 50th IAEA rotational team began the next stage of international monitoring at the South Ukraine NPP.
The anniversary team's experts took over from the previous mission. The mandate of the International Atomic Energy Agency experts provides for continuous monitoring of radiation safety, assessment of the technical parameters of equipment operation, and analysis of NPP activities under prolonged military risks.
The previous monitoring mission team performed its functions for three weeks. During the meeting, summarizing the work undertaken, its leader noted the constructive interaction with the staff of the South Ukraine NPP. "On behalf of the 49th IAEA team, I would like to thank the Ukrainian side for their cooperation. Our schedule of walkdowns and meetings was very busy. And based on its results, we can confirm the safe operation of the equipment. Unfortunately, during our stay here, there were many air raid alerts, drone flights, and power outages in the town. Thank you for maintaining the safe operation of the plant despite all these risks," said the head of the IAEA team, who handed over his powers to his successors.
"The work of IAEA experts is crucial. All recorded threats—information about any drone or missile flights—are promptly forwarded to the agency's central office. Thus, the international community receives reliable information about the risks to which the nuclear facility is exposed," emphasized Viktor Savorona, Deputy Director General for Quality and Management at the affiliate “SS SUNPP”.
