A planned rotation of representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. The 42nd team of experts replaced their predecessors, who had been monitoring the safety situation at the nuclear facility for three weeks.

Chief Engineer of the branch “SS SUNPP” Andrii Fomytskyi welcomed the new IAEA rotation group, stressing that he was traditionally glad to meet the experts at the site. He also made a special emphasis on the constructive cooperation with the previous mission team. He briefly informed the new delegation about the situation at the enterprise and introduced the SUNPP team responsible for further interaction with the Agency.

Head of the 41st expert team commented, “It was a great pleasure for me to be here for three weeks. I got a positive impression, observing efficient arrangement and operation of all the aspects at the site. We met with due professionalism and sincere hospitality everywhere. I hope that our presence was useful to your site in some way. Indeed, I will look forward to the opportunity to be back at your site, but in peacetime.”

Deputy Director General for Quality and Management Viktor Savorona emphasized that the tasks of the international mission remain unchanged: supervising production processes at the site, monitoring compliance with nuclear safety and security requirements, as well as informing the world community about potential threats associated with russian military aggression. “For my part, I can say that the management and the staff of the South Ukraine NPP are always open, ready to cooperate and demonstrate what actions are being taken to minimize threats. Observations are being made, interviews are being conducted with personnel, and experts are provided with information about the state of the nuclear facility. Moreover, all possible measures are being taken to reduce the risks for the work of the international mission at the site,” Viktor Savorona said.

Since January 2023, the presence of IAEA observers at Ukrainian nuclear power plants has been ensured as part of the permanent monitoring program. It was implemented in accordance with the request of the Ukrainian side.
