Employees of the South Ukraine nuclear power plant, jointly with colleagues from Rivne and Khmelnytskyi NPPs and the Head Office of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, are taking part in energy efficiency training. The practical course, which took place at SUNPP from October 28 to 30, was preceded by theoretical training at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The training will result in the certification of specialists and granting the right to conduct energy audits, as required by the Law “On Energy Efficiency”.
Ukraine is moving towards energy independence. The issue of efficient energy consumption was raised long before russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2022, the Law “On Energy Efficiency” was adopted, which defines the basic principles of energy production, transportation, transmission, distribution, supply and consumption. It made it possible to create tools and regulations not only in the private sector but also in industry. According to this law, every business entity (including JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”) must conduct an energy audit within four years. This period expires in 2025.
“The results of the audits already conducted in Ukraine show positive changes: energy consumption and operating costs are reduced, and the saved funds are used for other important needs,” said Yevhen Novakivskyi, a lecturer at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
In total, more than 45 people took part in the training. After completing the theoretical course, the participants consolidated their knowledge in practice. The practice lasted for three days at the South Ukraine NPP site. The training was attended by representatives of various departments of the company, including turbine shops, equipment commissioning and testing service, production and technical service, heat supply and underground utility shop, water and sewerage and heating networks shop, HPP-HPSPP cascade, and training center.
“We studied the technical nuances of working with measuring devices and inspected a section of the NPP-Town heating network and some electrical equipment, including transformers and electric motors. The next step will be to conduct a similar practice at Rivne and Khmelnytskyi NPPs for their personnel. The result of this training will be certification of specialists and granting them the right to conduct energy audits, as required by the Law “On Energy Efficiency”, said Serhii Medvedev, Deputy Head of SUNPP Production and Technical Service.
Energy auditors of each nuclear power plant are to prepare the first report by November 2025 and publish an extract from it on the portal of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine. This will help assess the situation and develop further cost optimization measures.
