The training program is intended to last 6 months, and it provides for familiarization with Westinghouse documentation and tools necessary for the implementation of the AP1000 project. It includes training on the fundamentals of reactor design using American technology, on-the-job training with mentors from Westinghouse, as well as specialist training on AP1000 control panel simulators in the USA.
“AP1000 nuclear reactors based on Westinghouse generation III+ technology are currently the most advanced and safe. For their construction and operation, we need high-end professionals who will know well the features of AP1000. Therefore, the start of the office work along with the implementation of the project to build AP1000 units at Ukrainian nuclear power plants is an important step to ensure the success of the project and strengthen cooperation between Energoatom and Westinghouse,” Petro Kotin, head of Energoatom, emphasized.
The Energoatom-Westinghouse Engineering Office was set up to implement the Memorandum on expanding cooperation between JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” and Westinghouse dated June 2, 2022; it provides for the construction of 9 AP1000 power units in Ukraine.
