The Health Care Department of South Ukraine NPP received a donation of medical equipment from the IAEA – a patient monitor. The device allows monitoring vital health indicators in dynamics and making decisions faster in case of critical conditions of patients.
The IAEA Medical Support Program is aimed at strengthening the capacity of health centers at Ukrainian NPPs and hospitals located in satellite towns to provide timely medical care to nuclear facility personnel both in the daily routine and during emergency response.
According to Halyna Khmilyevska, Head of the Health Care Department of South Ukraine nuclear power plant, international experts have studied the needs and compiled a list of priority medical equipment to be provided. The patient monitor, which was recently put into operation in the Health Care Department, is the first expensive device from that list.
“The patient monitor is a multifunctional device that allows you to monitor all the patient's vital signs in dynamics: heart rate, blood oxygen level, blood pressure, and body temperature. Due to this device, our specialists will be able to identify critical conditions faster and more accurately. This is especially important in conditions where every second can be crucial,” stressed Halyna Khmilyevska.
The IAEA regularly supports medical initiatives at nuclear power facilities and in satellite towns of South Ukraine, Khmelnytskyi and Rivne NPPs, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the health of industry workers. Last year, for example, the Yuzhnoukrainsk City Multidisciplinary Hospital received international charitable support – the doctors were provided with a modern ultrasound diagnostic device.
