Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine's plans to complete KhNPP Units 3 and 4 using equipment from Bulgaria's Belene NPP.
“We are in contact with the Ministry of Energy and Energoatom on how the Agency can support these plans. They are very timely, so keep moving forward,” Grossi emphasized.
In the context of the development of the nuclear fleet at Khmelnytskyi NPP, the IAEA Director General initiated the launch of a technical support mission to safely integrate new NPP components into existing systems, which, according to him, will increase the credibility of the project in terms of nuclear safety. Mr. Grossi is convinced that “the Agency's participation in the completion of KhNPP will contribute to the observance of high nuclear safety standards”.
“I promise that we will stand with Ukraine to help it increase the capacity of Khmelnytskyi NPP by building new power units,” the IAEA Director General stresses.
