The 34th team of experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has replaced the previous team that completed a three-week monitoring cycle at South Ukraine NPP. The new rotating delegation will continue to perform the task of overseeing the safe operation of the nuclear facility under the conditions of increased risk caused by russian aggression.

The executives of South Ukraine NPP, representatives of the updated and previous expert groups were involved to replacement of foreign experts.

“The 33rd rotation was successful. No incidents occurred during our mission, while all tasks were completed. By familiarizing ourselves with the plant's operations and communicating with the staff, we ensured that the facility operated safely while the employees performed their duties responsibly. That is crucial under the current conditions. I am confident that South Ukraine NPP will continue to maintain high standards of nuclear and physical safety, and the staff will remain a reliable support in this process,” said the head of the previous IAEA team.

This mission focuses on several key areas: monitoring the operation of nuclear equipment and infrastructure to prevent accidents; recording potential risks associated with shelling or other factors that may affect safety; ensuring transparency in informing the world about the state of Ukrainian NPPs; and providing technical support through recommendations to stabilize plant operations, modernize equipment and strengthen protection in the face of increased threats.

“We are committed to cooperation. Our task is to ensure the reliable protection of the IAEA experts. Almost every day, enemy Shahid kamikaze drones and missiles fly over our site, posing a threat to both our country and the entire humanity. We will timely provide all meaningful data on these threats to the Agency's observers. We hope that by joint efforts we will be able to stop these actions,” emphasized Vyacheslav Stoyanov, Director General of the affiliate “SS SUNPP”.

The rotation of experts is part of the continuous surveillance program that the Agency has been implementing at Ukrainian NPPs since January 2023. The work of the observation missions is a response to an official invitation from the Ukrainian government.
