On November 28, Pavlo Kovtonyuk, CEO of Energoatom, and people's deputies of Ukraine paid a working visit to Khmelnytskyi NPP. The parliamentary delegation included Anatolii Kostiukh, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Safety of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services, and Serhii Nahorniak, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services.

The participants inspected the plant site, discussed the status of repair and reconstruction work, and key issues related to the operation and development of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

During the production meeting, the people's deputies emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in wartime and its role in ensuring the passage of this year's heating season, as the enemy deliberately destroys other energy sources.

"Today, we must be frank with Ukrainians and tell them that this winter will be got through largely thanks to nuclear energy. Eight out of ten light bulbs in apartments are lit due to Energoatom. Ukraine has no choice but to develop the nuclear sector," said Serhii Nahorniak.

At the same time, Anatolii Kostiukh noted the work of the company's thousands of employees, who, despite the enemy's attacks and attempts to plunge our country into darkness, provide the country with light.

"We recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the startup of the second power unit of the Khmelnytskyi NPP. The decision to complete the construction of unit 2 was also unpopular at the time, but parliamentarians and society reached a consensus and brought the matter to the result we see today. Without these crucial megawatts, it would be even harder for us to get through winters like the one we're having now. That's why we need to take a strategic view of the development of nuclear facilities," said Anatolii Kostiukh.

He also said that parliament is working on legislative initiatives aimed at developing Ukraine's nuclear industry.

NNEGC head Pavlo Kovtonyuk thanked the deputies for their visit and support, highlighting that Energoatom had prepared for the winter heating season in advance, successfully completing a repair campaign. Ukrainian NPPs are ready to operate at full capacity throughout the winter.

“We are ready to operate all nine power units at maximum capacity to ensure that Ukrainian homes have heat and light and businesses can operate, primarily for our army and our country,” said Pavlo Kovtonyuk.

The head of the company noted that power output also depends on the condition of overhead lines, which are damaged by enemy air strikes.
