Within the framework of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the affiliate “SS “Rivne NPP” of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” received medical equipment for emergency medical care, as well as special training equipment for conducting training sessions on first aid.

To ensure nuclear and radiation safety & security, as well as emergency preparedness during a full-scale russian invasion, the IAEA is implementing a support program for Ukrainian nuclear power plants. During this time, Rivne NPP received some necessary equipment, materials, spare parts, and devices under the list compiled by the company.

Late last year, Rivne NPP received special medical equipment for the transportation and transfer of injured people – a frameless transport stretchers and a pump for them. By the way, this is not the first batch of essential medical equipment that the company received from the Agency as part of the medical support program for personnel of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

“In 2023, we received medicines, equipment, and medical devices necessary to improve the quality and accessibility of medical care; in 2024, we received rapid tests (to determine COVID-19 and influenza antigens) and modern stretchers for the safe transportation of injured people. With the assistance of the IAEA, specialists from the Health Department and the Personnel Development Department also attended a series of seminars to provide psychological support to nuclear workers. We sincerely appreciate the assistance provided and look forward to further close cooperation,” said Natalia Kucheruk, Head of the Health Department of the Occupational Health and Safety Service at RNPP.

Last December, Rivne NPP also received special equipment for first aid training: training automatic external defibrillators, tourniquets, manikins, simulators, and other materials for practicing first aid skills.

Rivne NPP launched first aid training courses in 2019. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the relevance of such training and the number of participants has increased. Specialists of the Health Department of the Occupational Health and Safety Service and certified instructors who combine volunteer activities with work at RNPP teach the employees. Rivne NPP is improving staff training by sharing the skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bleeding control, and assisting with burns, fractures, seizures, and airway obstruction through specialized simulation training and open lectures.

“We teach how to behave in extreme conditions, assess the victim's condition, provide first aid in case of explosions and injuries, including tourniquet application, bleeding control, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use an automated external defibrillator, etc. The equipment will increase the effectiveness of such training, and the quality of practicing all the skills acquired in practice is crucial for all citizens today. We are grateful to the IAEA for its assistance in such a challenging time for Ukraine,” said Ihor Poiminov, Deputy Head of RNPP International Cooperation and Technical Assistance Department and first aid training course instructor.
