Pavlo Kovtonyuk, head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom,” conducted a working visit to the Affiliate SS “Emergency Technical Center” *(ETC). The purpose of visit was to review the subdivision’s operational readiness to respond to potential radiation incidents and assess its current technical capabilities and staffing level.
The Emergency Technical Center is a specialized subdivision of Energoatom responsible for providing rapid response to radiation-related incidents and maintaining constant emergency readiness. This subdivision was established to preserve and build upon the unique expertise gained during the mitigation of the Chernobyl accident.
The modern ETC succeeded the system of emergency technical structures that have been evolving since the early 1990s. Today, it operates as the sole center within Energoatom dedicated to addressing radiation-related challenges.
This specialized subdivision is composed of a multidisciplinary team, including dosimetrists and decontamination specialists; engineering experts for specialized works; communication personnel, divers, and medical professionals.
The head of Energoatom emphasized the ETC’s key role within Ukraine’s nuclear and radiation safety system.
“The Emergency Technical Center is a critical component of Energoatom’s safety system. This subdivision must be prepared to act promptly, professionally, and in a coordinated manner at a moment’s notice. Our company’s ability to respond to the most complex challenges depends on their level of training. Currently, the subdivision is fully equipped with highly qualified personnel and special-purpose machinery for hazardous radiation environments,” Pavlo Kovtonyuk noted.
Serhii Kruk, Director of the Affiliate “SS ETC,” added that the center has entered a new stage of development. This phase focuses on ensuring a high level of emergency preparedness and expanding the resources necessary for effective response and interaction with civil protection services.
