The purpose of the special mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency is to assess the capacity of health care facilities to ensure emergency preparedness, improve the material and technical base for providing emergency medical care and dynamic health monitoring of NPP personnel, as well as psychological support for nuclear employees.

Since 2023, at the Rivne NPP, such missions have been conducted within the framework of a comprehensive program of technical support and assistance in nuclear safety and security and in accordance with the program of medical support for personnel of Ukrainian NPPs.

During the last visit, IAEA experts studied the capabilities and needs of the power plant in the context of the program, including the area of operational personnel health support. The experts got acquainted with the work of the RNPP health center, which, in particular, uses equipment, medicines and medical products provided by the Agency last year; visited the rehabilitation and health center of Training Center; met with psychologists of Personnel Development Department. In addition, the foreign delegation became familiar with the work activities of the Varash Multi-Profile Hospital – the only institution of this type in the satellite town of the Rivne NPP.

During the visit, the issue of additional supply of medical equipment for the needs of the Rivne NPP and the Varash Multi-Profile Hospital was discussed, as well as the provision of medical support, including psychological, in emergencies.

According to Head of Health Department of Occupational Health Service of the Rivne NPP, coordinator of cooperation within the IAEA medical program, Nataliia Kucheruk, such special missions are important for improving the quality of medical care and creating the necessary emergency reserve.

“The IAEA in Ukraine is committed to do everything in their power to ensure that Ukrainian nuclear power plants have mechanisms, and nuclear employees have access to the necessary services to support health. At the same time, it is important that medical institutions in the satellite towns of the NPP are able to provide these services both in normal conditions and in emergencies, taking into account all the challenges of the war in Ukraine. We express our gratitude to the IAEA for support. Through joint efforts, we are creating a system that will ensure the proper level of medical care for the plant employees, town and community residents,” Nataliia Kucheruk emphasized.
