Last week, at RNPP, experts from the IAEA Permanent Mission on Nuclear Safety and Security rotated again. The 36th team, consisting of representatives of Brazil and Bulgaria, started its work.
The program of their stay includes observations, walkthroughs, inspections, meetings, and interviewing personnel to monitor nuclear safety and security issues during the martial law period.
“We are grateful to the experts presented at the RNPP site in January for their work. It was very dynamic, efficient, and effective,” Valerii Kovalchuk, Deputy Chief Engineer for Technology and Engineering, emphasized during the rotation.
“I would like to thank you for our joint fruitful work, for your openness and willingness to provide answers and discuss technical issues. Your professionalism is impressive, as you operate the units in such challenging times and, at the same time, maintain very high levels of safety and security. I would like to visit your plant again, and hopefully as soon as possible in peacetime,” one of the mission experts stressed.
The IAEA introduced permanent missions to Ukrainian NPPs to monitor the safety situation at Energoatom's nuclear power plants in the context of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Since January 2023, experts from 27 countries have visited Rivne NPP facilities as part of the mission.
