Ukraine's state nuclear operator Energoatom has completed scheduled maintenance on four reactor units as part of preparations for the 2026–27 winter season.
Speaking during an interview with Ukraine's United News national broadcast, acting CEO Pavlo Kovtonyuk said the company remains on schedule to return its entire nuclear fleet to full generating capacity by mid-November, ensuring maximum electricity output ahead of peak winter demand. Nuclear power is expected to continue providing the backbone of Ukraine's electricity supply throughout the forthcoming winter.
Commenting on the situation at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the head of Energoatom said the facility continues to deteriorate as a result of the occupation. He noted that critical staffing shortages, the gradual degradation of plant systems and equipment, and repeated losses of off-site power continue to undermine nuclear and radiation safety at the site.
