During the March session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a joint statement was delivered on nuclear safety, security and safeguards in Ukraine.
The statement, made by the representative of Canada on the third anniversary of the illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant by the russian federation, was delivered on behalf of 47 Member States of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
In particular, this statement is about support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the ongoing threats to nuclear safety and security arising from russian military actions at Ukrainian nuclear facilities and against those.
“In line with previous resolutions of the IAEA Board and General Conference, we call on russia to remove all unauthorized military and other personnel from Ukraine’s ZNPP and for the plant to be returned to the full control of the competent Ukrainian regulatory authorities. Ukrainian nuclear power plants must operate safely and securely under the full sovereign control of Ukraine”, the statement, delivered at the IAEA Board of Governors session, stresses.
