Nuclear industry has once again proven its strategic importance for Ukraine’s energy security. Owing to it, the country was able to avoid a large-scale blackout during russian massive attacks on energy infrastructure. Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk on the national telethon “United News” stated that.

In her comment, Minister expressed a clear position regarding further development of the nuclear industry, in particular the possibility of completing the power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

“I believe such a development needs to be accomplished. Which units we will take to do that? It is a process of negotiations and discussions. We must understand that the development of the completion of new nuclear capacities is a rather long process,” Svitlana Grynchuk commented.

According to Minister, a meeting with Minister of Energy of Bulgaria is scheduled for the nearest future. Further bilateral steps in the field of completing the power units will be discussed there.

Svitlana Grynchuk said that nuclear generation would remain the pillar of energy resilience of our country. During the war, nuclear generation has consistently provided 50-60% of the energy balance, which allows us to survive the winter.

Svitlana Grynchuk also emphasized the advantages of nuclear energy: “This is a clean and low-carbon generation that does not produce additional emissions of greenhouse gases and harmful substances. This is stable generation, quite cheap.”
