The Supervisory Board of Joint Stock Company “National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom” (“Energoatom” or the “Company”) announces the launch of an international search and selection process for the position of Management Board Member for Commercial Affairs.
About Energoatom
Energoatom is Ukraine’s largest power generation company and the operator of Ukraine's fleet of nuclear power plants which provides more than 55% of Ukraine’s electricity production and represents one of the key pillars of the nation’s energy security.
The Company operates the Rivne, South Ukraine and Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plants, as well as the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which remains under temporary Russian occupation and is one of the largest nuclear power complexes in Europe. In addition to its nuclear assets, Energoatom manages pumped-storage and hydroelectric facilities and operates the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility.
In 2025, the Company generated more than 54 billion kWh of electricity. Energoatom employs approximately 30,000 people, making it one of Ukraine’s largest state-owned enterprises and one of the country’s most strategically important organizations.
Energoatom is executing an ambitious nuclear development program focused on expanding nuclear generation, modernizing production assets, strengthening operational resilience, and deepening international cooperation. At the same time, the Company continues to enhance its anti-corruption framework, corporate governance system, organizational effectiveness, and institutional capability in line with leading international standards.
A Unique Leadership Opportunity
The Management Board Member for Commercial Affairswill be a key member of the Management Board and will be responsible for maximizing the commercial value of Energoatom’s electricity generation portfolio.
This is a senior leadership role at the intersection of electricity markets, commercial operations, energy trading, revenue management, market risk management, and international energy market integration.
The Management Board Member for Commercial Affairs will be responsible for shaping and executing the Company’s commercial policy, optimizing electricity sales across all market segments, developing commercial frameworks for future generation capacity, and strengthening Energoatom’s position in both the Ukrainian and European energy markets.
What makes this role particularly unique is that the Management Board Member for Commercial Affairs will lead the commercial activities of Ukraine’s largest electricity producer, which accounts for more than 50% of the country’s electricity generation while simultaneously fulfilling critical public service obligations (PSO) as part of its national mandate.
Success in this role will require the ability to balance commercial performance with public policy objectives, energy security considerations, and competitive market dynamics.
The Leadership Challenge
The newly appointed Management Board Member for Commercial Affairs will operate in an environment of exceptional complexity and scale.
Energoatom is simultaneously ensuring the resilient operation of critical energy infrastructure during wartime; undergoing a corporate governance transformation aligned with OECD and EU standards; delivering major nuclear investment programmes; preparing for the construction of new nuclear units and deployment of advanced nuclear technologies; deepening integration with the European energy market; and expanding cooperation with international financial institutions and technology partners.
The key challenge of the role will be to maximize the commercial performance of the Company’s generation portfolio while fulfilling public service obligations and supporting the long-term financial sustainability of Energoatom.
The role will require a deep understanding of both the Ukrainian and European electricity markets, the ability to operate in a highly volatile market environment, develop innovative commercial solutions, and identify new revenue opportunities to support the Company’s long-term growth and development.
Candidate Profile
The Supervisory Board is seeking a strong commercial leader with a proven track record of managing commercial operations, revenue generation, market development, and complex external stakeholder relationships within the energy sector.
The successful candidate will combine strategic and commercial acumen, a deep understanding of energy markets, the ability to operate in a highly regulated and dynamic environment, and a demonstrated capability to design and execute commercial strategies that create long-term value.
The candidate should demonstrate:
▪ proven experience leading commercial operations within a large organization or business unit in the energy sector, including sales, trading, market development, management of commercial contracts, or portfolio management;
▪ experience developing and executing commercial strategies aimed at driving revenue growth, improving profitability, and strengthening market position;
▪ a strong understanding of energy market fundamentals, pricing mechanisms, supply and demand dynamics, and the key drivers of commercial performance in energy businesses;
▪ experience operating within regulated markets and engaging with government authorities, regulators, market operators, or other industry institutions;
▪ experience managing commercial, market, and counterparty risks, including decision-making in uncertain and rapidly changing market conditions;
▪ the ability to leverage market intelligence, forecasting, and analytical insights to support strategic and commercial decision-making;
▪ experience leading complex commercial negotiations and building long-term relationships with key customers, suppliers, traders, and other market participants;
▪ a track record of building and leading high-performing commercial teams, driving performance improvement, and implementing organizational change;
▪ high standards of personal integrity, professional ethics, and corporate governance.
Particular value will be placed on candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
▪ electricity markets, including wholesale power markets, energy trading, generation portfolio optimization, or supply portfolio management;
▪ companies involved in electricity generation, trading, supply, transmission, or other energy infrastructure activities;
▪ leading commercial functions within large energy companies, utilities, or operators of critical infrastructure;
▪ development of export businesses and cross-border electricity trading activities;
▪ European electricity markets, cross-border trading mechanisms, and electricity market integration initiatives;
▪ development of commercial analytics capabilities, market forecasting, pricing analytics, and market risk management frameworks;
▪ design and implementation of long-term commercial structures and contractual frameworks for electricity sales and portfolio management;
▪ organizations that have undergone large-scale transformation, governance reform, market liberalization, or integration into international markets.
The successful candidate should possess a high level of English proficiency sufficient to engage effectively with international commercial partners, participants in European energy markets, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders.
Strategic Mandate
The Management Board Member for Commercial Affairs will be responsible for shaping and executing the Company’s commercial policy, maximizing the value of electricity generation, strengthening Energoatom’s market position, expanding export opportunities, and supporting the Company’s long-term financial sustainability through effective commercial management.
The primary objective of the role will be to maximize the commercial return from Energoatom’s existing and future generation portfolio within both regulated and competitive electricity market environments, while supporting Ukraine’s integration into the European energy market.
Key priorities will include:
Commercial Strategy
▪ develop and execute Energoatom’s long-term commercial strategy with the objective of maximizing revenues and improving profitability;
▪ ensure effective commercial positioning of the Company within the Ukrainian electricity market while balancing regulatory requirements and public service obligations (PSO);
▪ develop and implement commercial frameworks that support the long-term financial sustainability of the Company;
▪ ensure alignment of commercial decisions with the Company’s financial, operational, and investment priorities.
Electricity Markets and Trading
▪ develop electricity sales strategies and optimize the Company’s commercial portfolio across different market segments;
▪ advance trading capabilities and promote the adoption of modern portfolio and market position management practices;
▪ monitor and analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, pricing developments, and supply-demand fundamentals affecting commercial performance;
▪ engage with the transmission system operator, market operators, regulators, and other industry stakeholders to support the continued development of market mechanisms and operating conditions.
Revenue and Commercial Portfolio Management
▪ maximize revenue from electricity sales through the optimal allocation of volumes across available sales channels;
▪ develop approaches for managing the Company’s commercial contract portfolio and market positions;
▪ support the development of long-term commercial arrangements for future generation capacity;
▪ contribute to pricing and contractual solutions that enhance revenue predictability and mitigate commercial risks;
▪ identify and develop new commercial products and revenue streams in line with evolving market opportunities and customer needs.
Export and European Market Integration
▪ develop and implement the Company’s export strategy in line with Ukraine’s integration into the European energy market;
▪ expand Energoatom’s presence in European electricity markets;
▪ build and maintain relationships with European traders, suppliers, market operators, and other commercial counterparties;
▪ monitor developments in European energy legislation and emerging market mechanisms that may impact the Company;
▪ support the commercial integration of future generation capacity into both Ukrainian and European electricity markets.
Commercial Analytics and Market Risk Management
▪ develop and strengthen market intelligence, forecasting, and analytical capabilities related to demand, pricing, and market developments;
▪ build market scenarios for the Ukrainian and European electricity markets to support executive decision-making;
▪ manage commercial and market risks associated with electricity prices, regulatory changes, counterparty performance, and market volatility;
▪ provide regular market and commercial analysis to the Management Board and the Supervisory Board;
▪ promote data-driven decision-making based on market intelligence, predictive analytics, and international energy industry best practices.
