In March, at the Cruas NPP, France, a Member Support Mission (MSM) was conducted under the leadership of Viktor Royko, secondee of the Paris Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. Viktor Royko is a specialist who has worked at the Khmelnytskyi NPP for many years, and now, as a representative of Energoatom, he shares his experience at the WANO Paris Center.
Within the framework of the MSM, a team of experienced experts from the Paris Center provided support to the NPP for improving the training process for the operating personnel of the main control panel (MCP), in particular:
- observation of the shift performance during sessions on the MCR full-scope simulator was conducted;
- standards of excellence in the field of organizing teamwork, encouraging positive behavior, managing reactivity, and basic principles of operator performance were discussed;
- weaknesses were analyzed and recommendations were made for improving the training process for MCR operating personnel.
During the classroom sessions, WANO perspective on standards of excellence in supervision by shift management and coaching, best practices in improving monitoring at the MCR was provided.
That mission allowed the NPP to identify shortcomings and discuss ways to eliminate them, in combination with ongoing efforts under the Enhanced Performance Monitoring (ePM) Program.
The experience of Ukrainian nuclear employees is of international importance, and experts who started their careers at KhNPP are helping to improve nuclear power in the world now.
