Coordination of efforts to support residents of Energodar and employees of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant who were illegally imprisoned or went missing in action as a result of the armed aggression of the russian federation was the key topic of the meeting, which united the efforts of the Energodar authorities, business and human rights organizations.
On January 22, the event was held at the initiative of the Association of Relatives of Kremlin Political Prisoners within the framework of the “Tribunal for Putin” initiative. Representatives of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, branch “SS “Zaporizhzhia NPP”, Energodar City Administration, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Center for Civil Liberties, Global Investigations and Strategic Advisory Services and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of War Prisoners joined the meeting.
A number of issues were discussed during the meeting, in particular:
- advocacy and legal actions for the release of civilians;
- directions for supporting families of persons who are illegally prisoned or considered missing in action;
- possibilities of involving lawyers in russia to protect the rights of persons illegally deprived of their liberty, as well as to monitor the conditions of detention of imprisoned civilians;
- international legal mechanisms for bringing those responsible to justice.
