First acquaintance with nuclear power: interest that can grow into a profession

main

On December 11, Energoatom welcomed high school students of the Nest Academy private school from Vyshneve. Energoatom experts held an introductory lecture on the nuclear power industry of Ukraine and an interactive tour for students. Given the realities of our energy sector and its role in the country's energy balance, the new information aroused great interest among students.

How nuclear energy is generated, where and how radioactive waste is processed and stored, why a nuclear power plant needs a steam generator, spray ponds, and an automated radiation monitoring system – these and other questions were answered during a lecture on nuclear energy.

The theoretical part was complemented by communication near the three-dimensional model of Zaporizhzhia NPP: it helps to imagine the approximate size and complexity of a large nuclear facility. The students were particularly impressed by a virtual tour of the NPP, which was made possible by augmented reality glasses.

In conclusion, the high school students learned from the nuclear professionals that polytechnic universities in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa accept those who want to study nuclear energy-related specialties. Moreover, there are dozens of departments at nuclear power plants where young professionals who have successfully completed a training course at industry-specific universities can be employed.

Thus, the visit to the Company's office became part of the career guidance and educational activities that the Directorate for Strategic Communications conducts for schoolchildren and students.
