On April 8, the working group of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the investigation of possible violations of Ukrainian legislation in the formation and implementation of price and tariff policy in the energy and public utility services sectors, accompanied by Head of Energoatom Petro Kotin, visited the Khmelnytskyi NPP site and held an external meeting.
Energoatom specialists provided comprehensive answers on the status of development of the feasibility study for the completion of Units 3 and 4, negotiations with the Bulgarian side, as well as financial and technical aspects of the project.
In order to visually assess the status of repair and restoration work on Units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP and Energoatom readiness to install equipment after the adoption of the relevant draft law, the people’s deputies visited the buildings of the units.
The members of parliament also witnessed emergency drills, during which a potential situation that the plant personnel may encounter in the event of a combined attack by the russian federation was simulated. Those drills demonstrated the high level of training of nuclear employees.
At the end of the working trip, the representatives of the Temporary Investigative Commission made a tour to the modular town for nuclear employees. They got acquainted with the conditions that the NNEGC created for the personnel of the Zaporizhzhia NPP who had left Energodar since the beginning of the temporary occupation. The members of parliament also talked with the employees of the Zaporizhzhia NPP involved in the repair and restoration activities, and expressed gratitude to them for their loyalty to the state and work in the energy project of Ukraine.
According to Oleksii Kucherenko, Head of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the investigation of possible violations of Ukrainian legislation in the formation and implementation of price and tariff policy in the energy and public utility services sectors, the visit of the members of parliament to the Khmelnytskyi NPP site provided help to put an end to many speculations about the project of completion of Units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP, heard in statements in the media and social networks.
“Our state has already made huge capital investments in this project for many years. It would be absolutely senseless not to use the aspects were a lot of money have been invested and not to build new, modern, efficient power units that will be in operation for the citizens and economy of Ukraine,” he said.
Head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin expressed his gratitude to the people’s deputies for their visit to the plant and support for the development of nuclear industry.
“Today we have the opportunity to talk and provide more information about the work of Energoatom and give answers to the questions that have arisen. We are open to dialogue and ready to communicate specifically about all the details of the project for the completion of units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP. I invite the people’s deputies to be back at the Khmelnytskyi NPP after the adoption of the second draft law in order to assess the progress that will be achieved,” Petro Kotin emphasized.
The working visit to the Khmelnytskyi NPP was an important step in strengthening the interaction between the legislative authorities and the energy sector. On-site dialogue, an objective assessment of the technical condition and an open discussion of further steps regarding the completion of Units 3 and 4 allowed to remove a number of speculations and outline real prospects for the development of Ukrainian nuclear industry. This visit has once again confirmed that the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP is not only technically possible, but also strategically necessary for the energy security of Ukraine.
