Energoatom continues to develop the domestic nuclear industry, cooperating with international partners. Despite wartime and the challenges posed by the russian invasion, NNEGC has a number of preliminary works in cooperation with industry leading companies, Westinghouse and Holtec, over the past year.
At the Khmelnytskyi NPP, the project to build Units 5 and 6 using American Westinghouse technology was launched. The implementation of the agreement to purchase the main equipment of the AP1000 reactor plant began.
Activities are underway to create a technological complex in Ukraine for the production of fuel assemblies of the VVER-1000 design using Westinghouse technology. Energoatom has already received a Westinghouse license for the production of fuel assembly top and bottom nozzles in Ukraine.
A general agreement were signed that would allow the construction of a plant for the production of small modular reactor components using the technology of the American company Holtec International and the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility.
JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” also actively cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Therefore, owing to cooperation, in 2024 the work of the IAEA monitoring mission was expanded to electrical substations important for the operation of Ukrainian NPPs.
Active development of cooperation with CAMECO is underway. Owing to timely signed agreements, 100% of Energoatom’s needs in uranium hexafluoride for Ukrainian NPPs were satisfied from 2024 to 2035.
“Despite the challenges that our country faced after the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, the Energoatom team has proven that it is capable not only of ensuring the operation of Ukrainian NPPs, but also of working on the development of domestic nuclear industry. Together with our partners, we will continue to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security,” Petro Kotin, Head of NNEGC emphasized.
