Energoatom’s corporatization to expand the Company's access to the international capital market for the development of the domestic nuclear sector

The process of transforming a state-owned enterprise into a joint-stock company will increase Energoatom's attractiveness in the eyes of investor companies from all over the world.

Energoatom has already signed memorandums of cooperation with several international industry leaders (NuScale, Rolls-Royce, Holtec, Westinghouse, etc.). However, currently, the legal factor – related to the organizational and legal form – inhibits the continuation of the development of joint projects. Therefore, transforming the state-owned enterprise into a joint-stock company will help simplify decision-making procedures and time and remove some constraints that prevent efficient joint work.

After the Law of Ukraine "On Joint Stock Company "NNEGC "Energoatom" entered into force in March 2023, the Company has already received the first impetus to accelerate investment development –  a credit guarantee for 192 million pounds from the UK Export Finance (UKEF) to finance uranium enrichment services.

"Energoatom's cooperation with international partners will reach a new, more fruitful level. As a result, the Company will be able to attract foreign capital to finance promising projects that will bring Energoatom closer to the leaders in the global nuclear power industry," said NNEGC President Petro Kotin.

According to him, due to the creation of an independent Supervisory Board at the JSC, which will include foreign experts with many years of experience, NNEGC will become a more independent player in the international market.

The Supervisory Board will control all invested funds. That will help strengthen the trust of partners in the Company and the desire to invest in the development of Ukrainian nuclear energy.

“Bringing Energoatom to modern European governance standards is both a dictate of the times and an opening of new development opportunities,” emphasized Petro Kotin.
