During the meeting, the following issues were discussed:

  • approval of the composition of the Supervisory Board of Energoatom;
  • progress of the repair campaign at domestic NPPs;
  • ensuring protection of nuclear facilities located within the territory of Ukraine;
  • strengthening cooperation between countries in nuclear field.

According to Head of Energoatom, the appointment of the NNEGC Supervisory Board will provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with foreign companies and attract more investments for the development of Ukrainian nuclear generation.

“Energoatom makes maximum efforts to protect existing nuclear facilities. At the same time, the Company is actively working on the construction of new power units at the Khmelnytsky NPP,” Petro Kotin emphasized.

In his turn, Kuninori Matsuda expressed his support for the completion of new nuclear power facilities in Ukraine: the construction of power units based on the American AP1000 technology, and the deployment of small modular reactors. According to him, Japanese companies can join this process.

In addition, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine stressed the importance of further cooperation based on the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's Peace Formula, especially under the first point – “Radiation and nuclear safety”. Kuninori Matsuda once again assured that Japan was continuing to support the efforts of both the Ukrainian government and the IAEA to ensure nuclear safety and security of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.

“Japan can help Ukraine restore the Zaporizhzhia NPP after its deoccupation. Moreover, the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine is extremely important for Japan,” he added.

The Head of Energoatom expressed gratitude to the people of Japan for their constant support for Ukraine and its energy sector in the conditions of military aggression of the russian federation.
