Gigawatts for Ukraine: the industry joins forces for nuclear power development

On March 31, 2025, a round table on the topic “Nuclear Industry of Ukraine: New Challenges and Development Prospects” organized by the Ukrainian Nuclear Forum Association was held in Kyiv.

The event brought together representatives of state authorities, leading energy companies, specialized scientific organizations and enterprises, as well as the public. In particular, the round table was attended by Chairman of the Subcommittee on Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Safety of the Committee of Energy and Housing the Committee of Energy, Housing and Utility of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Anatolii Kostyukh, Acting Director of Nuclear Energy Department of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Ihor Ivanov, Energoatom specialists, President of the Association of Environmental Professionals PAEW Liudmyla Tsyhanok, and Heads of “Impulse” and “Radii”.

Opening the meeting, Oleksandr Ostapovets, President of the Ukrainian Nuclear Forum Association and acting First Vice President – Technical Director of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, emphasized the importance of uniting around a single goal -– the development of nuclear power industry for the restoration and development of Ukraine.

During the round table, the participants considered key issues of nuclear sector development, in particular, the prospects for the completion of power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP, the implementation of new projects at other sites and the role of Ukrainian enterprises in these processes.

In course of the discussion, special attention was paid to the contribution of Energoatom, represented by Company Head Petro Kotin, to industry development, strategic vision, active position in defending the interests of the sector at the state and international levels, as well as initiatives aimed at attracting Ukrainian enterprises to new projects.

During the event, representatives of PJSC “SPA “Radii” and SRPA “Impulse” presented the initiative to create a Consortium of Ukrainian enterprises for the implementation of projects to increase nuclear capacity. This format of the association will allow for:

  • mobilizing national production and scientific potential;
  • ensuring a high level of localization;
  • creating new jobs;
  • promoting energy independence and economic stability of the country.

It is especially emphasized that the enterprises that today join in creating conditions for electricity production will become active electricity consumers tomorrow. This will contribute to the sustainable development of the industry and the uninterrupted functioning of critical sectors of the economy.

Ihor Dir, General Director of the Association “Ukrainian Nuclear Forum”, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, summed up the results of the event. He specifically commented that cooperation between industry, scientists, and the state would become a driving force for strengthening the energy security and independence of Ukraine. He also called on all participants to continue working in this direction and to form a clear roadmap for activities in the nearest future.

The round table became an important platform for strategic dialogue between business, science, and the state in the nuclear field.
