On March 20, 2025, Head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin and Director General of the branch “SS “Rivne NPP” Pavlo Kovtonyuk familiarized the delegation of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Ukraine, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Martin Harris, with the Rivne NPP performance and inspected critically important facilities.
The visit of British partners to the plant is another confirmation of the close cooperation between the two countries in nuclear sector. Great Britain actively supports Ukraine in strengthening energy independence, in particular in the construction of protective structures for the critical NPP infrastructure.
The diplomatic officials visited the main control panel of Unit 1, that allowed visitors to clearly assess the level of professionalism of Ukrainian nuclear employees and the safety of nuclear power plants, which, despite the war, continue generating stable electricity for the country.
The British Ambassador drew attention to the courage of Ukrainian nuclear employees and their dedication to profession; they have been doing the impossible things for more than three years to keep heating and providing lights on in the country.
“Ukrainian nuclear employees are real heroes who are holding the energy front. The enormous work that you do every day is of great importance for the safety of Ukraine and Europe. russia is using all means to bring the country’s energy system out of operation, but we are here after successfully completing the heating season. This is your invaluable contribution to the resilence of Ukraine,” Martin Harris said.
He also added that the strategic document on century-long cooperation between the countries, recently signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, envisages further strengthening of the partnership in the nuclear power sector.
During the meeting, Head of NNEGC emphasized the important role of the United Kingdom in diversifying the supply of nuclear fuel for Ukraine.
“We are very grateful to the United Kingdom, represented by the Ambassador, for their support and assistance. After the start of the full-scale invasion, in cooperation with Urenco we managed to do important work for the stable operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Urenco will provide uranium enrichment services to Energoatom until 2035 with the possibility of extending the contract until 2043,” Petro Kotin said.
In memory of his visit to the plant, Martin Harris left a note about the heroism of the employees in the operational log of Unit Shift Supervisor.
