Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took a significant step to increase the capacity of the Khmelnytskyi NPP. On February 11, the Parliament supported the decision to begin negotiations on purchasing reactor equipment from the Belene NPP.
This project will be one of the largest since Ukraine gained independence. These are the reasons why:
• 2,200 MW of additional electric power to the domestic grid;
• 15 bln kW·h/year is an additional electric power supply;
• 4,570 jobs for construction staff;
• 1,900 jobs for operational staff;
• cooperation with leading American, European and Ukrainian companies within the framework of the project implementation.
The completion of Units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP is not only a guarantee of Ukraine energy security, but also a path to economic development and ensuring the support of affordable residential tariffs.
