Due to the spread of partial statements and distorted interpretations regarding the operation of the Khmelnytskyi Unit 2 in a number of media outlets, JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” emphasizes:
- Information on the technical condition of the Khmelnytskyi Unit 2 is completely transparent both for the regulator and all relevant structures, and for society as a whole.
- Since 2022, Unit 2 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP has been operated with a damaged turbine, which lacks the 5th stage functioning blades of the high-pressure cylinder. Their destruction occurred during startup tests conducted after unit outage.
- The company specialists took all necessary technical measures, involving the leading scientific institutions of our country, in order to restore the maximum possible generator output of the turbine after the damage. Currently, the power unit can generate up to 900 MW of electricity, which is 100 MW lower than the nominal capacity.
- NNEGC “Energoatom” has been already implemented measures to purchase a new updated rotor of the high-pressure cylinder. This will allow not only to restore the design nominal capacity, but also to increase it by 40 MW – up to 1040 MW.
- The current decrease in the power unit capacity is a requirement of the dispatcher of NEC “Ukrenergo”. This is not a technical problem, but a consequence of the large-scale attacks launched by the russian federation on the Ukrainian energy system in November. The capacity decrease occurs exclusively by order of the system operator to balance the energy system in the period after the air attacks.
- We emphasize: the dissemination of unverified, manipulative information harms the energy security of the state.
Energoatom is open to dialogue, provides complete and reliable data to all competent authorities and Ukrainian society. We call on politicians and the media to refrain from manipulation on the topic of nuclear industry, especially in wartime conditions.
