From June 5–12, 2026, the affiliate “SS “Atomremontservice” of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” conducted a self-assessment using the WANO Paris Center peer review methodology. This procedure is unique because it adapts an approach typically used at nuclear power plants to Energoatom’s repair division.

The idea for the self-assessment arose during a working meeting in Paris, where Oleksandr Ostapovets, Inspector General – Director for Safety, Acting Board member of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, presented the results of self-assessments conducted at three of the company’s nuclear power plants in 2025 using the WANO methodology.

The initiative to extend best practices in self-assessment to Energoatom’s repair divisions was supported by Satu Katajala, head of the WANO Paris Center, and Timo Eurasto, the company’s representative at the WANO-PC. They emphasized the importance of involving service organizations in continuous improvement processes.

The team included five company specialists, including secondees from the WANO Paris Center, who provided methodological support and an independent perspective on the company’s operations. The experts conducted a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the company’s operations: from the technical condition of the equipment to management organization and safety culture.

During the review, Atomremontservice demonstrated maximum openness and a willingness to engage in dialogue. This aligns with the guiding principle of WANO peer reviews—to seek not shortcomings, but new opportunities for improvement and the dissemination of best practices.

Based on the results of this work, a final report will be prepared that identifies the company’s strengths and areas for further improvement and will be submitted to the Director of the WANO Paris Center.

Conducting this self-assessment was an important step not only for the affiliate “SS “Atomremontservice” but also for the entire company, laying the groundwork for applying WANO’s international approaches to the operations of Energoatom’s service and repair divisions.
