The situation at the seized ZNPP could result in severe consequences
This was emphasized by CEO of Energoatom Petro Kotin while communicating with journalists.
He said that due to the occupation of ZNPP the level of danger was increasing every day.
"According to the imaginary ten-point hazard scale, I would estimate the threat at ZNPP at 7-8. However, the situation remains uncertain, because many seemingly minor events are constantly occurring at the plant, each of which separately may not lead to an accident, but their accumulation is fraught with negative consequences. Due to the cumulative effect of the degradation of individual elements, the entire system can fail, with grave consequences. This has already happened at the Chornobyl and Fukushima NPPs," explained CEO of Energoatom.
He added that the actions of the russian occupiers have already caused significant degradation of equipment at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Among the main existing risks are the following:
· the failure of the ruscists to carry out the necessary repairs;
· the near absence of qualified personnel to ensure the normal operation of the NPP;
· the plant lacks an external power supply;
· lack of cooling water due to the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir;
· the period authorized by the manufacturer for nuclear fuel to stay in reactors is coming to an end.
The principal calculated indicators of safety criteria are above normal.
Sonderkommando of the russian military as well as heavy equipment and weapons are permanently located at the power plant site. The perimeter of the plant is mined, and the detonation of ammunition and explosives stored by the ruscists at the site threatens to cause a catastrophe. The only way to prevent a disaster is to demilitarize and de-occupy ZNPP and restore full control of Ukraine to ensure nuclear and radiation safety.
