Energoatom will provide housing for nuclear construction workers
Energoatom continues to carry out preparatory works at the construction site of Khmelnytskyi NPP Units 3 and 4. The first place in this process is not occupied by production issues but by people who will be involved in completing the power units.
We do not have any staffing problems with filling all the vacant positions at the construction site, but we should provide people with normal living conditions near the facility where they will work.
About 1,000 specialists will be involved in the first stages of power unit construction, but at the peak, almost 9,000 workers will be involved. All of them must have housing with all the amenities. Netishyn, a satellite town of Khmelnytskyi NPP, has no available housing stock. Many people from the temporarily occupied territories have relocated here, have already settled in, and will probably continue to live in the town of nuclear workers.
Currently, 600 employees of Zaporizhzhia NPP who left their homes in temporarily occupied Enerhodar with their families are already employed at Khmelnytskyi NPP.
This step is aimed not only at preserving the workforce capacity of Ukraine's nuclear sector but also at supporting people who have faced challenges due to the war. Most of these employees will be involved in construction and installation work at KhNPP Units 3 and 4. All of them need urgent housing.
Therefore, we found quick solutions to address this issue and set up two modular towns in the shortest time possible.
The first comprises 4 Swedish-made modular houses, consisting of 44 single-room apartments and 4 two-room apartments. We received them as aid from Sweden. I am sincerely grateful to the Government of this country and all responsible persons who quickly reviewed our project and decided to provide us with this assistance.
The second modular town consists of small Ukrainian-made houses ordered by Khmelnytskyi NPP, and the number of which will continue to grow.
Thus, our employees will temporarily live in compact but fully equipped houses with furniture, household appliances, and other accessories.
These employees have lost their homes and property, and their homes remain in the enemy-occupied territories. Against all odds, they did not betray Ukraine and did not cooperate with the ruscists. Zaporizhzhia nuclear workers deserve decent living conditions, work, and respect, and we have to support them.
We are currently considering several options for the construction of new apartment buildings in Netishyn so that, as with the construction of Khmelnytskyi NPP units, our nuclear professionals have permanent housing and the entire necessary social infrastructure. After all, we have the construction of KhNPP Units 5 and 6 ahead of us. Therefore, we will address the issue of housing for our employees comprehensively and systematically. If it is necessary to expand the boundaries of Netishyn, we will submit a request to the local authorities.
The construction of new power units at Khmelnytskyi NPP is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the post-war reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine. We must complete all the preparatory work now and create decent working conditions and social security for nuclear construction workers so that we can continue to work after our Victory.
