Holtec invites Energoatom to cooperate on SMR-300 deployment at Palisades NPP, USA
The U.S. Holtec International is looking forward to the participation of Energoatom specialists in the project team that will work on the deployment of the SMR-300 small modular reactor at the Palisades NPP site, Dr. Kris Singh, President and CEO of Holtec, stated.
Energoatom representatives' participation in the construction, testing, and commissioning of SMR at the Palisades NPP site (USA) will allow Energoatom to gain experience for further implementation of this technology in Ukraine.
“The invitation of NNEGC specialists to the Holtec project team is another evidence of high confidence in Ukraine and Energoatom from our strategic partners. We are pleased to receive this invitation, which demonstrates not only support in this challenging time for the country but also recognizes the high professionalism and competence of our nuclear professionals,” stressed Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin.
Earlier, Holtec International received a $1.52 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to restart the Palisades NPP. Two SMR-300 reactors are planned to be deployed there.
As a reminder, Energoatom and Holtec have implemented a project for the construction and commissioning of the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF) in Ukraine.
The companies also reached an agreement on the implementation of two large-scale projects in Ukraine: the construction of a plant for the production of small modular reactor (SMR) components and the construction of a plant for the production of components for the CSFSF, which have been manufactured in the United States until now.
