The parties discussed enhancing of current cooperation between the companies, in particular, signing of Agreement on supply of AP-1000 reactor island for Khmelnytskyi NPP power unit #5 and successful loading of nuclear fuel manufactured by Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB with participation of Energoatoms’s experts into VVER-440 reactor of Rivne NPP.

«I believe that signing the Agreement on procurement of equipment for AP-1000 power units is an epoch-making event in development of the national nuclear power industry. The first Western power unit in Ukraine will add up more than 1000 MW in capacity and strengthen the national energy independence,» Petro Kotin emphasized.

Moreover, Petro Kotin rated highly the quality of the U.S. fuel for VVER-440 reactor of Rivne NPP that was successfully loaded in September, 2023. The President of Energoatom also spoke about success in establishing own assembly line of nuclear fuel that will help break the russian monopoly in this market.

«Ukraine continues licensing to ensure industrial production of its own fuel assemblies based on Westinghouse technology», he said.

In turn, Patrick Fragman emphasized that cooperation between Westinghouse and Energoatom would continue and expand. The Head of Westinghouse assured that cooperation would allow implementation of ambitious plans. Establishment of the joint engineering center of Energoatom and Westinghouse in Ukraine where the Ukrainian and U.S. can work together on the joint projects will serve as confirmation of the robust bilateral work.
