On June 16, the participants of the Global Peace Summit will consider the issue of returning the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the control of Ukraine
On June 15, 2024, the Global Peace Summit on the settlement of the war in Ukraine started in
Switzerland. The event is attended by 93 countries and 8 international organizations that have
joined together to find ways to achieve sustainable peace in Ukraine and beyond.
On the first day of the peace summit, a general plenary meeting of its participants and a joint
symbolic photo session took place. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi addressed
the summit delegates with an opening speech: “101 countries and international organizations are
now at the Summit, and this is a tremendous success, our success, the common success of all those
who believe that a united world, United Nations, are stronger than any aggressor,” The President of
Ukraine emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi stressed that at the inaugural first Peace Summit, its participants will focus on
three points: “The first point is radiation and nuclear safety. The second is food security. The third
is the release of prisoners and deportees, adults and children, military and civilians whose lives have
been broken by war…” V. Zelenskyi said.
Therefore, on June 16, the participants of the summit, within the framework of the relevant panel
discussions, will exchange opinions on ways to achieve a comprehensive, just and durable peace
based on international law, including the UN Charter, in relation to the three main topics announced
by the President of Ukraine.
The first and main topic of discussion will be devoted to radiation and nuclear safety, namely, the
safe functioning of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, in particular, the return of the Zaporizhzhia
NPP to the control of Ukraine.
