Today, on March 22, 2024, during a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine, at 5:10 am, the external overhead power line 750 kV Dniprovska was disconnected. This line links the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to the unified power system of Ukraine. 

Currently, Europe's largest nuclear power plant is connected to the Ukrainian power grid only via the 330 kV Zaporizhzhia TPP — Ferosplavna transmission line. 

This line has been recently repaired by Ukrainian power engineers given it had been out of service for a long time due to damage caused by another russian shelling. 

"Such a situation is extremely dangerous and threatens to lead to an emergency. If the last remaining line linking the facility to the national power grid is disconnected, ZNPP will get into another blackout, which is a serious violation of the conditions for the safe operation of the plant," CEO of Energoatom Petro Kotin stressed. 

He reiterated that Zaporizhzhia NPP should immediately come under the full control of Ukraine, its legitimate operator, Energoatom, while russia should withdraw its soldiers and military equipment from the plant. 

As a reminder, since the beginning of the russian occupation, Zaporizhzhia NPP has already experienced eight complete blackouts and one partial one – with emergency diesel generators and safety systems started operating. In case of their failure, it threatens the development of a nuclear and radiation accident.
