Petro Kotin discussed cooperation in infrastructure and nuclear projects with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea

During the meeting, the CEO of Energoatom Petro Kotin and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine and Moldova Kim Hyung-Tae, paid attention to the priority areas of development and restoration of Ukrainian nuclear power generation.

The head of NNEGC stressed that Energoatom is interested in cooperation with Korean companies in infrastructure and nuclear projects. He informed that the Company is preparing for the construction of the first unit with the AP1000 reactor and the completion of two additional units at the site of the Khmelnytsky NPP. Besides, the construction of the first small modular reactor using Holtec technology is also planned in Ukraine.

“Energoatom is looking for partners for our projects. We have already purchased a reactor island from the Westinghouse company for Unit 5 at the Khmelnytsky NPP, and we will gladly consider the offer of Korean companies regarding the turbine island,” Petro Kotin said.

NNEGC would also like the Korean company Hyundai to participate in the construction of a dam bridge across the Dnipro River from Kamianka-Dniprovska to Nikopol near Energodar.

In his turn, Kim Hyung-Tae expressed his support for Ukraine. He noted that South Korea had condemned russia's barbaric invasion of Ukraine from the very beginning, joined the anti-russian sanctions, and provided our country with humanitarian aid and support for recovery, with an emphasis on the power-generating sector.

The Ambassador also stated that Korean companies are very interested in participating in construction projects and supplying equipment to the Ukrainian companies. The Korean government helps domestic companies in their intentions.

At the end, Petro Kotin thanked South Korea for its constant support for Ukraine, in particular, during the vote at the IAEA Board of Governors for the resolution calling on the russian federation to immediately withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
