SS "South-Ukraine NPP"03.09.2018
South-Ukraine electric power producing complex (EPPC) is the only in Ukraine enterprise which multiply uses basic nuclear and flexing generating pumped-hydrostorage facilities, and also water resources of the river Yuzhnyi Bug. It is located in the North of Nickolaev region.
Today the EPPC includes South-Ukraine NPP, Alexandrovka hydroelectric power plant (HPP), and Tashlyc storage plant (SP).
Annually the EPPC at the river Yuzhnyi Bug produces 17-20 billion KW/h of electric power which is about 10% of total electric power producing in the country, and is about 20% of generating of it in the Ukraine nuclear power plants.
The electric power produced by South-Ukraine NPP, Alexandrovka HPP, and Tashlyc SP is sufficient to provide with normal conditions of life activity in Nickolaev, Odessa, Kherson regions, partly in Kirovograd region, and in Crimea Autonomous Republic which is a region with more than 5 million of people. Since 1982, owing to work of 7 thousand of the enterprise staff, it was produced more than 470 billion KW/h of electric power.
The power producing complex is included into the State Enterprise “National Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” as a detached subdivision. In accordance with the assessment of supervisory bodies, the level of reliability of South-Ukraine NPP’s Units matches European safety standards.
As estimated by international monitoring organizations, the reliability level of SU NPP power units meets the European safety requirements. In 2009 the South-Ukraine NPP hosted seven missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, when IAEA experts assessed the operational and design safety of the three power units, reviewed the radioactive waste management process and the decommissioning plan of power units to eventually conclude on their compliance with all international requirements.
Tashlyk Hydro Pumped Storage Power Plant (THPSPP)
Construction of the hydro pumped storage power plant started in 1981. The first hydraulic power unit was put into operation late in 2006. THPSPP is intended to accommodate peak loads in the south-western region of the Unified Power System of Ukraine, and to secure safe base load operation of South Ukraine NPP. For more than 20 years of construction history, the Tashlyk HPSPP design has survived significant modifications. Its current version has passed all expert reviews envisaged by the Ukrainian legislation. Based on conclusions of expert reviews, the design was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The design-related activities are implemented with due regard to the environmental legislation. Utilization of highly capable load-follow capacities of Tashlyk HPSPP improves reliability and stability of the Unified Power System of Ukraine. At present, works are underway to complete construction of the third hydraulic power unit of Tashlyk HPSPP.
Olexandrivska Hydro Power Plant (OHPP)
OHPP composed of two hydro power units with 11.5 MW of total capacity was put in commercial operation in 1999. Annually, power units of OHPP generate more than 35 million kWh(e).
The Olexandrivska water reservoir is located in the South Buh river canyon and makes a part of the hydrotechnical facilities of the South Ukraine power complex, ensures electricity production at hydropower plant and serves as a lower water pond for Tashlyk HPSPP.
Olexandrivska hydro system is important for protection of the residential settlements located downstream the South Buh from spring floods.
